Three-part linear topology
The topology of the three-part linear electric encoder is equivalent to that of the three-part rotary encoder. It consists of a passive moving head and two stationary elongated printed boards, each is coated with a special conductive pattern. One of the boards serves as the AC electric field transmitter and the other as a field receiver. The moving head is made of a dielectric material with a sinusoidal shape, which modulates the electric field as it moves. Since the moving part is passive, this linear encoder is cable-free. |

Two-part linear topology
The two-part linear electric encoder is based on two printed boards: a stationary, elongated scale that serves as the field transmitter, and a moving, short board that serves as the field receiver and processing electronics. |
